MINNEAPOLIS International Dairy Queen said a seasonal signature treat will be home for the holidays, but with a new name. The Candy Cane Chill, an updated version of the peppermint-flavored Blizzard treat, will be the Blizzard of the Month for December.
The Candy Cane Chill, a blend of soft serve, candy cane pieces and chocolate chunks, will be available at all Dairy Queen and DQ Grill and Chill locations starting Dec. 1.
"Candy canes are symbolic of the holidays, and the flavor profile of mint with chocolate makes Candy Cane Chill a seasonal favorite,” said Michael Keller, Dairy Queen's chief brand officer. “We hope all of our Blizzard fans will share holiday smiles and stories with us during this festive time.”
As Dairy Queen prepares to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Blizzard next year, it continues to promote the signature treat and the limited-time flavors available in the ongoing Blizzard of the Month promotion, which began in 2003. Notable Blizzard flavors have included Turtle Oreo, Brownie Batter and Strawberry CheeseQuake.
Dairy Queen said the average retail price for the Candy Cane Chill would be $3.09 for 12 ounces, $3.49 for 16 ounces and $3.99 for 21 ounces. Like many Blizzards, the Candy Cane Chill can be made into an ice cream cake for birthday and holiday celebrations.
The chain started its Blizzard Fan Club in 2005, which now boasts more than 2.2 million members.
Minneapolis-based International Dairy Queen has a system of more than 5,600 restaurants in the United States, Canada and several foreign countries.
