INDIANAPOLIS Steak n Shake Co.'s chief operating officer, Omar Janjua, is resigning from the company, effective Sept. 5, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
No reason was given for his resignation.
Janjua joined Steak n Shake in June 2007 after leading operations services at Pizza Hut.
Since Janjua's appointment, Steak n Shake has seen an upheaval in leadership that ultimately resulted in activist investor Sardar Biglari taking over as chairman and chief executive of the family-dining operator.
Last week, Steak n Shake and another restaurant company led by Biglari, Western Sizzlin Corp., announced plans to merge. The proposed merger calls for Western Sizzlin to become a subsidiary of Steak n Shake.
Indianapolis-based Steak n Shake operates or franchises 486 family-dining restaurants that together tally systemwide sales of about $700 million.
