Zaxbys
Zaxby’s has grown into a limited-service regional chicken leader in the Southeast.
Zaxby’s Operating Co. L.P. was founded in 1990 with the opening of the first Zaxby’s in Statesboro, Ga., by childhood friends Zach McLeroy and Tony Townley. McLeroy remains CEO of the Athens, Ga.-based company.
The Zaxby’s menu highlights chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and salads.
In March 2021, Zaxby’s rolled out a new chicken sandwich that was accompanied by a loyalty program giveaway and branded social-media stickers. It was designed to compete with other quick-service popular chicken sandwiches such as the one from Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.
Late in 2020, Goldman Sachs Merchant Banking Division acquired a “significant stake” in Zaxby’s Operating Co. The companies said the partnership would support growth for the brand “as well as expansion into new sales channels.”
