Americans celebrate rye whiskey revival

Ask a group of American drinkers what they think of when the phrase “America’s original spirit” is uttered, and any number of them will answer “bourbon.” And they would be wrong.


“When I tell people that there were over 200 distilleries focused on making rye whiskey prior to Prohibition, they don’t believe me,” said whiskey devotee Mike Miller, owner of Chicago’s whiskey and rock and roll bar, Delilah’s. “But it’s true.”


What’s more, rye whiskey is back, and back to such a degree that it’s almost becoming a victim of its own success.
