Chipotle launches new beverages, including aluminum bottled water

From Poppi flavors to Open Water and Coke Zero, new offerings seek to expand restaurant brand’s ‘better for you’ offerings

Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. on Monday announced a new lineup of ready-to-drink beverages, including flavors of Poppi (prebiotic soda), Open Water (canned water), and Coke Zero, the company said.

The Newport Beach, Calif.-based fast-casual brand said the beverages are now available at all Chipotle restaurants in the United States for dine-in, takeout, and delivery.

Four years ago, Chipotle introduced the brand’s first national philanthropic product: Beverages with Integrity. Chipotle serves non-genetically modified, all-natural, and certified organic aguas frescas and lemonades from farmer-created Tractor Beverage Co., with 5% of Chipotle’s profits from sales of these beverages donated to causes that support farmers.

With this latest beverage launch, Chipotle is working with Austin, Texas-based Poppi to provide strawberry-lemon and orange canned soda. The beverages have five grams of sugar and 25 calories or less per can.

Chipotle said it was also partnering with Open Water, a female-owned and LGBTQIA+-founded and led business, to remove plastic water bottles from its U.S. restaurants. Open Water uses recyclable, climate neutral certified 16-ounce aluminum bottles.

A portion of Open Water's revenue from its sales to Chipotle will be donated to regenerative agriculture projects that support the health of coastal waters, the company said.

Chipotle is Open Water's largest restaurant partner, bringing plastic free-water bottles to nearly 3,500 restaurants nationwide.

“The perfect drink pairing can truly enhance the flavor of your go-to Chipotle meal,” said Stephanie Perdue, Chipotle’s vice president of brand marketing, in a statement. “We’ve refreshed our ready-to-drink beverage assortment to complement our existing lineup and appeal to our guests’ love of unique flavors and sustainable, healthy mindsets.”

Chipotle Mexican Grill, founded in 1993, has nearly 3,500 restaurants in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Kuwait.
