Hart House, McDonald’s value meal, Dickey’s franchisee

The four-unit Hart House restaurant chain owned in part by actor and comedian Kevin Hart abruptly closed all locations this week. The company gave no explanation. Hart House was known for its entirely plant-based fast-food menu of chicken sandwiches, burgers, shakes and tots.

McDonald’s is extending its meal deal. The fast-food burger chain said on Thursday that it will run its $5 Meal Deal through December.

Smokin’ Dutchman Holdings, a Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants’ franchisee with four locations in Western Michigan, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this week. The CEO blamed the company’s financial challenges on its parent company.

California’s Fast Food Council ended its meeting on Wednesday without raising the minimum wage for most fast-food workers in the state — or achieving much of anything. Most of the full-day event consisted of employees and employers airing their divergent experiences in the business during an open-commentary session that ran to 3.5 hours.
