Starbucks-Princi, IHOP president, Raising Cane’s growth

Starbucks is phasing out its partnership with Princi Bakery, removing the Princi branding from 8 of its Reserve and Roastery stores, all in the U.S. and China.

IHOP President Jay Johns is retiring. Johns has led the pancake chain for six years and has been with parent company Dine Brands for 16. His replacement is Lawrence Kim, currently chief innovation officer for Yum Brands.

Raising Cane’s has some ambitious goals. The fast-growing chicken chain just concluded a restaurant leader conference in Cancun in which founder/owner Todd Graves outlined the company’s ambitious plans for the future.

Restaurants and retailers have a potent new ally in their battle to bring down charge-card processing fees: The U.S. Department of Justice. The agency announced this week that it is suing Visa, a major target of the industry’s effort, for allegedly stifling competition in illegal ways.

Wagamama is taking control of its U.S. business. The casual-dining ramen chain has acquired the remaining 80% of its joint venture partnership from Conversion Venture Capital.
