Trending this week: McDonald's reveals its new dine-in safety procedures and more on the CDC’s guidelines for reopening restaurant dining rooms and bars

IHOP franchisee CFRA Holdings files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

This week on Nation's Restaurant News, McDonald's revealed its new dine-in safety procedures. Since the pandemic forced restaurants to close dining rooms, McDonald’s has been offering carryout, delivery and drive-thru services. When dining rooms eventually reopen, McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger said consumers will notice the following changes: some closed seating and tables to accommodate social distancing; more frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces, including tables; masks available for customers in cities where they are required; closed Play Places and modified dine-in beverage procedures to minimize contact.

In other news, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released guidelines for restaurant dining rooms and bars to follow when they are permitted to reopen. Some of these guidelines include: encourage social distancing and enhance spacing; train employees on new health and safety protocols; plan for if an employee gets sick; intensify cleaning, sanitation, disinfection, ventilation and more.
