Trending this week: Taco Bell is trying out chicken nuggets

This week on Nation's Restaurant News the top story was Torchy’s Tacos addresses Nazi diner incident with anti-hate message, new training procedures. Torchy’s Tacos is assessing its procedures this week after customers encountered a group of Nazi-clad diners at a Fort Worth, Texas. The 116-unit fast-casual brand, based in Austin, Texas, was reevaluating procedures after a customer posted a TikTok of the group, the official said.

In other news, Taco Bell seems to be pulling a page from sister chain KFC. The company is testing Crispy Chicken Nuggets in the Minneapolis market, according to an email sent from the company on Thursday.

The new nuggets are made with all-white meat from whole muscle chicken breast and are marinated in spicy jalapeno buttermilk, then breaded and fried. They come with two sauce options – signature Bell sauce, with tomatoes, red chiles, onion, and garlic, or hot and sweet jalapeno honey mustard. The nuggets are available in two sizes: 5-piece with one sauce for $3.99-$4.99 (varying by location) or 10-piece with two sauces for $6.99-$8.99.

Also, Popeyes has launched a new variation of its wildly successful chicken sandwich through a partnership with Truff, a Southern California-based hot sauce brand. The new Spicy Truff Chicken Sandwich is now available in restaurants nationwide and for delivery for $5.99.

The sandwich features Popeyes’ original chicken sandwich topped with Truff’s Spicy Mayo, which includes red jalapeno, mayo and black winter truffle. That mayo is also available for purchase on digital channels for $1.
