P.F. Chang's celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, and to commemorate the event, new grilled dishes, an appetizer and cocktails are on the menu.
Out of the 12 new cocktails featured on the beverage menu, the Chinese 88 has the dual distinction of paying tribute not only to P.F. Chang's 15 years but also to the Olympic Summer Games currently being held in Beijing. The number eight is considered a lucky number in Chinese culture because it sounds similar to the Chinese word for wealth, and the Olympics officially started with the opening ceremony at 8 p.m. on August 8, 2008 — 08-08-08.
The Chinese 88 is a take on the classic French 75 cocktail and is made with gin, simple syrup and fresh lemon juice that is shaken, strained, then topped with Brut. Half of the glass has a sugar rim. The cocktail costs around $8 to $8.50, but the price will vary depending on location.
