McDonald’s 1Q U.S. same-store sales fall 1.7%

Net income declined 5.1% during the quarter

McDonald’s Corp.’s same-store sales improved sequentially across its U.S. division in March compared to the previous two months, though not enough to keep sales from decreasing 1.7 percent for the first quarter ended March 31.

McDonald’s same-store sales fell 0.6 percent in March after the company started the year with declines of 3.3 percent in January and 1.4 percent in February. The Oak Brook, Ill.-based operator of more than 35,000 restaurants worldwide said it would continue to focus on stabilizing key markets like the United States, Germany, Japan and Australia after severe winter weather and competition in the quick-service segment dampened first-quarter traffic.
