Chick-fil-A tests new spicy chicken items, brownie dessert

The items could make their way onto the permanent menu

Chick-fil-A this week expanded tests of several spicy chicken menu items and began a trial of new chocolate brownie dessert, the company said.

The Atlanta-based quick-service brand said it launched the expanded tests on Monday.

Chick-fil-A began testing the new Chocolate Fudge Brownie for a limited time at some restaurants in the Bay Area of California, South Florida and Richmond, Va.

“Feedback from the test will help determine whether the Chocolate Fudge Brownie will be added to Chick-fil-A’s menu nationwide,” the company said.

The brownie will be available all day and is priced at about $1.99, depending on the market. It has 370 calories.

New Spicy Chick-n-Strips were tested last year in Philadelphia and Phoenix as well as Central Texas and South Texas, the company said. The Spicy Chick-n-Strips are available in three-count or four-count entrées and can also be ordered in catering trays. A three-count order starts at $3.99, though prices vary by location, and has 340 calories.

While those areas will continue that test, Chick-fil-A will offer three new spicy options at participating units in the Arizona areas of Phoenix, Yuma and Tucson. Those options include: Grilled Spicy Deluxe Sandwich, a Spicy Chick-n-Strips Biscuit and a Grilled Spicy Deluxe Bundle, which can be ordered on the catering menu.

The Grilled Spicy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich is served on a brioche bun and with Colby-Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and a new cilantro-lime sauce. The sandwich had been tested earlier in three areas: Knoxville, Tenn.; Orlando, Fla., and St. Louis, Mo.

The Spicy Chick-n-Strips Biscuit features two Spicy Chick-n-Strips on a buttermilk biscuit. It is priced starting at $3.09 and has 530 calories.

“We’re excited to spice up the menu and see what happens in these test markets,” Matt Reed of Chick-fil-A’s menu development team said in a statement.

Chick-fil-A has more than 2,300 restaurants in 47 states and Washington, D.C.
