On this month’s video edition of Menu Tracker, NRN senior food and beverage editor Bret Thorn tried the fast-casual salad trifecta: Just Salad, Sweetgreen and Cava.
Over the month of June, over 100 new menu items were released by chains and we had our head of food and beverage sample some of the offerings available in New York City. Here’s a preview of what’s in the video:
- Just Salad rolled out a new salad called the Golden Summer Salad made with regenerative quinoa, romaine lettuce, arugula, golden beets, blood oranges, chopped almonds, goat cheese, mint leaves, and dill.
- Sweetgreen’s latest summer creation is the Summer Teriyaki Bowl, blackened chicken, roasted squash or roasted okra with sweet onions (depending on the city), spicy broccoli, shredded cabbage, raw carrots, basil, baby spinach and warm wild rice with teriyaki tahini dressing.
- Cava introduced its lemon chicken, this time in a new bowl made with spinach, romaine lettuce, Crazy Feta (whipped feta cheese with jalapeño pepper), red pepper hummus, grilled chicken, tomato & onion, pickled onions, cucumbers, lentil tabbouleh, roasted corn, feta, and preserved lemon vinaigrette.
- Wendy’s also reintroduced its summer salad: the Summer Strawberry Chicken Salad, made with strawberries, bacon and grilled chicken over lettuce and spring mix topped with an Italian cheese blend, candied almonds, and a sweet Champagne vinaigrette.
- And Starbucks added coconut milk to one of its refreshing summer drinks, the Pineapple Passionfruit Refresher, and called it the Paradise Drink Starbucks Refresher.
Hear Thorn’s thoughts on the food and drinks in the following video.
