Jamba Inc. has named former Starbucks Corp. executive Joe Thornton chief operations officer, effective March 20, the company said Thursday.
Thornton, who spent 11 years with Starbucks, replaces Steve Adkins in the COO role at Jamba. Thornton will oversee all aspects of Jamba Juice operations, including company-owned units, franchise support, operations services, training and communications.
He will also work with the Jamba Franchise Advisory Council to strengthen support for operators of the nearly fully franchised juice and smoothie chain.
“I am excited to welcome Joe Thornton to the Jamba team,” said Dave Pace, Jamba CEO. “Joe brings a track record of growth through operational excellence and a store-centric focus. He shares our commitment to building great teams and strengthening our franchise and partner relations.”
Most recently, Thornton was vice president of U.S. licensed stores for Starbucks, where he led the development and growth of 1,800 units. Before that, he served as senior vice president leading the operation of about 2,800 company-operated Starbucks locations.
Thornton’s career also includes 14 years with Blockbuster Video.
Frisco, Texas-based Jamba is parent to the Jamba Juice chain, which has more than 900 units.
