McDonald’s taps BTS for next Famous Orders Meal

South Korean pop group’s 10-piece Chicken McNuggets meal debuts in the U.S. on May 26 and inspires new sweet chili and Cajun dipping sauces

McDonald’s Corp. is partnering with South Korean pop group BTS for its next Famous Orders Meal and widening it to a global marketing program, the company said Monday.

The Chicago-based burger brand, which teamed with artists Travis Scott in September and J Balvin in October, would launch the BTS Famous Orders Meal in the United States on May 26.

The BTS order includes a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, medium fries and medium drink. For the first time in the United States, dipping options include sweet chili and Cajun sauces, which were inspired by popular recipes from McDonald’s South Korea.

The Famous Orders program, said Alistair Macrow, McDonald’s global chief marketing officer, in a letter to the system’s owners and employees, “shines a bright light on a simple, yet universal truth. In every country where we operate, from every walk of life and at almost every life stage: everyone has a go-to McDonald’s order.”

McDonald’s released a list of 49 markets that will be getting the new BTS Meal between May 26, when it debuts in the United States, through its June 25 unveiling in Indonesia.

BTS, which launched in 2013, has topped charts in many countries with such hits as “Dynamite” and “Boy With Luv.”

“The band has great memories with McDonald’s. We’re excited about this collaboration and can’t wait to share the BTS Meal with the world,” said BigHit Music, BTS’s recording label, in a statement

“BTS truly lights up the world stage, uniting people across the globe through their music,” said Morgan Flatley, McDonald’s USA’s chief marketing officer. “We’re excited to bring customers even closer to their beloved band in a way only McDonald’s can – through our delicious food – when we introduce the BTS signature order on our menu next month."

McDonald’s said it would be updating customers on the collaboration through its social channels.

McDonald’s USA has 14,000 restaurants, with 95% of them franchised. Globally, the brand has more than 39,000 locations.
