850 Subways in L.A. to add breakfast

LOS ANGELES More than 850 Subway units in Los Angeles will add breakfast service on Oct. 22, according to chain representatives. The menu, which will be offered as of the units’ new opening time of 7 a.m., will include a biscuit-based product that is unavailable at the 7,000 Subway stores nationwide that already offer breakfast.

About 550 of the Los Angeles outlets will offer Newhall Roasting Coffee at breakfast, and 20 locations will shift to 24-hour operations.

Los Angeles is Subway's first major market to offer breakfast at all stores, according to officials of Oh Cal Foods, the chain's area developer for Los Angeles County.

The menu will feature Omelet Sandwiches, with the options of ham, sausage, steak, and American and Monterey cheeses. Available for the first time, Oh Cal said, will be the Breakfast Stuffer, which feature omelet ingredients wrapped in biscuit dough and baked to order.

Recommended prices range from $2.59 for a cheese omelet sandwich to $5.79 for a foot-long Mega Omelet Sandwich. From Oct. 22 to Nov. 12, all six-inch breakfast sandwiches, wraps and Stuffers in Los Angeles will be offered for $1.99.

Subway consists of more than 28,000 franchised units. The sandwich brand is owned by Milford, Conn.-based Doctor's Associates.
