Bar Milano owners to reformat concept for economic times

NEW YORK Succumbing to consumers’ recessionary trade down tactics, restaurateurs Joe and Jason Denton said they would close their New York restaurant Bar Milano and reformat the space into their lower-priced concept, ’Inoteca.

“We think it’s just the right thing to do,” Joe Denton said.

Jason Denton added: “It’s probably best in this day and age, with the economy the way it is, that ’Inoteca will be in that spot.”

’Inoteca has mostly panini and pasta, and entrées for $18 or less. Cocktail menu prices also will be reworked, with drinks for $10 or less instead of $13.

Bar Milano opened last April and features Northern Italian food. Items on its opening menu included fried rabbit with dried apricots and carrots, and diver scallops with caviar and celery root. Entrées cost as much as $29.

The Dentons said Bar Milano would close on Jan. 1 and reopen as ’Inoteca in early February.
