Denny's taps Frances Allen as CMO

Denny’s Corp. said Tuesday it has appointed Frances Allen to the posts of chief marketing officer and executive vice president.

Allen replaces Mark Chmiel, who exited the Spartanburg, S.C.-based company in December 2009 along with several other senior executives.

Allen will be responsible for executing marketing strategies and campaigns, advertising and new programs for the 1,500-unit family-dining chain.

"We believe [Allen's] ability to drive brand reputation through compelling marketing campaigns will play an important role at Denny’s," said Debra Smithart-Oglesby, the company's interim chief executive and board chairwoman. "Ms. Allen will be responsible for enhancing the focus of our national and local marketing efforts in order to re-energize and grow the Denny’s brand."

Before joining Denny’s, Allen served as chief marketing officer for Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin’ Brands Inc., parent of the Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins chains.
