Domino's picks Pepsi vet for CMO

ANN ARBOR Mich. Domino’s Pizza has named Russell J. Weiner chief marketing officer and executive vice president. He replaces Ken Calwell, who left the chain in May and recently was named chief marketing officer for Wendy’s.

Weiner most recently was vice president of marketing/colas for Pepsi-Cola North America, overseeing the company’s flagship Pepsi portfolio, a $14 billion retail business accounting for 50 percent of Pepsi’s North American volume.

“His expertise spans across many marketing competencies, including both traditional and new media, with a proven ability to lead strategically and deliver on a plan,” Patrick Doyle, Domino’s USA president, said in a statement.

Weiner, who joined Pepsi in 1998, created the company’s largest promotion in history, Pepsi “Stuff.” In addition, his Diet Pepsi MAX “Wake up People” ad won an Effie Award, one of the ad community’s highest honors.

His efforts at Pepsi also included “packaging-as-media” programs targeting young consumers.

Domino’s operates or franchises 8,671 units worldwide.
