Granite City Food & Brewery has named Phil Costner CEO, the company said Wednesday.
Costner replaces Rob Doran, who retired this summer after leading the Minneapolis-based casual-dining operator of the Granite City and Cadillac Ranch All American Bar & Grill brands for the past six years.
“I’m truly excited and humbled by the opportunity to run these two iconic brands,” Costner said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working with the team to continue the evolution, growth and success of both brands.”
Costner has held several roles in the restaurant and entertainment business, most recently as president and CEO of Elite Sports Bar Group. He has also held positions with Universal Studios Hollywood, TGI Fridays, La Madeleine and Mimi’s Café.
Granite City operates 35 restaurants across its two brands in the Midwest. Dallas-based private-equity group CIC Partners owns the company.
Revenue in the second quarter ended June 28 fell slightly, to $39.7 million, from $39.9 million the previous year. But net income nearly tripled, to $1.4 million, from $545,899 the previous year.
“Granite City has significantly grown in revenue, number of restaurants and its capabilities in recent years,” Doran said in a statement. “Building off that progress, Phil is the right person to lead the organization to new levels of success and growth in the coming years.”
