NRN editors discuss Chick-fil-A being open on Sundays, Chuck E. Cheese’s possible sale, and Olive Garden’s appeal

Plus, hear from Sawyer Hemsley, cofounder and chief brand officer of Crumbl

This week on the Extra Serving podcast, a product of Nation’s Restaurant News, NRN editors Holly Petre, Sam Oches, and Leigh Anne Zinsmeister spoke about the possibility of Chick-fil-A being forced to open on Sundays.

A recent bill in New York State could force the notoriously closed-on-Sundays chain to open on the seventh day of the week because of its locations on the Thruway. This bill, which has a while to go before it’s passed, could change the whole structure of Chick-fil-A locations in New York State. Will they pull out of these locations over the scuffle?

Next, the editors talked about Chuck E. Cheese. The brand has been undergoing a revamp for some time, ranging from updates to its menu to a reshuffle in its C-suite. This week, there were reports that the chain was exploring a sale.

Finally, the editors talked about Olive Garden and its latest milestone. The casual-dining company surpassed $5 billion in sales for the first time. We’ve seen plenty of surveys that show Olive Garden is a favorite among consumers, especially Gen Z, and it finally seems like it’s paying off for the legacy brand.

This week’s guest is Sawyer Hemsley, cofounder and chief brand officer of Crumbl.
