Working Lunch: For big labor, it’s ‘Meet the new boss, same as the old boss’

AFL-CIO elects Liz Shuler as president following death of Richard Trumpka

The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations today made its choice to name its successor to Richard Trumpka, the organizations’ president who died earlier this month. As expected, the nod went to Liz Shuler, Trumpka’s loyal right hand, making her the first woman to ever lead the nation’s largest union. Mike Saltsman, a frequent contributor to Working Lunch and a partner with Berman & Company, sat down with the Align Public Strategies team to share his expertise on what the future looks like for Big Labor and what it means for business owners. The episode was recorded before Shuler’s election was official.

The team leads off the weekly legislative scorecard with a deep dive on the current state of the battle over masks, COVID-19 vaccine passports and boosters, and reports on the rest of the legislative and regulatory developments this week.
