LOS ANGELES California Pizza Kitchen Inc. has opened the first quick-service location of its namesake full-service chain on a college campus in Hempstead, N.Y.
The store is located at Hofstra University and operated by Lackmann Culinary Services, a contract foodservice provider based in Woodbury, N.Y., that specializes in managing college and corporate dining accounts.
The store serves a limited menu of CPK’s items, including a selection of pizzas, salads, pastas, soups and sandwiches, and is located in the university’s student center atrium. It is open daily until 2 a.m. and also offers takeout and delivery service.
CPK has other similar noncommercial locations in airports and sports facilities. The chain owns 209 corporate stores and franchises 45 others.
Last month, Compass Group PLC, the London-based onsite foodservice conglomerate, acquired Lackmann, one of the largest regional foodservice companies in the northeast. According to data compiled for Nation’s Restaurant News’ Top 100 census issue, in 2008 Lackmann reported revenues of $97 million and operated 72 accounts.
Compass Group, acknowledged as the largest foodservice company in the world, posted U.S. food and beverage revenues of more than $7.7 billion last year. In addition to Lackmann, it owns and operates such brands as Eurest, Canteen, Flik International, Chartwells, Restaurant Associates Managed Services, Morrison Management and Levy Restaurants.
