Why Starbucks chose Chicago for its largest Roastery in the world

5-story mega-experiential café opens in former Crate ‘n Barrel building

On a blistery cold Chicago day, Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson stood outside the company’s latest Reserve Roastery in Chicago, which is set to open Friday.

In various social media posts, Johnson has been giving thousands of fans a sneak peek of the five-story, 35,000-square foot building through videos and images. In one video, he is caught spontaneously fist pumping a pedestrian because he’s so excited about the brand’s latest mega-experiential café.

It is the company’s sixth Roastery in the world, and its third in the U.S.

“The Starbucks Reserve Roastery Chicago is truly a spectacular place.  Our partners have done an amazing job of creating the ultimate immersive experience around all-things-coffee. Can’t wait for you all to see it,” Johnson tweeted.

Learn what Johnson and Starbucks have to say about the Roastery in Chicago, a market the brand calls a second home.
