Potato tots, otherwise known as potato rounds and scores of other names, but most frequently referred to as the Ore-Ida trademarked name “Tater Tots,” are a beloved comfort food, seen in a number of dishes from a simple side to a smothered version or starring as a casserole or hot-dish topping.
This fun food can make even the most serious adult feel like a kid again, and because they’re so well-known, they are a great candidate for experimentation.
House made tots, as some restaurants have done, are a great way to provide a familiar menu item while still adding your own unique twist.
Market research firm Datassential reports that potato tots can be found on 7.6% of menus, an increase of 42% over the past four years.
