Chefs on the Move: New gigs for Ford Fry and José Garces

Plus new positions at hotels, restaurants, and other culinary venues across the country

As if chefs and restaurateurs Jose Garces and Ford Fry weren’t busy enough, they have taken on new roles — Garces as a member of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, which was founded in 1956 to encourage Americans to move more and eat better, and Fry as the chef in residence at the culinary program at Auburn University.

Andrew Black, the dynamo who has helped to elevate the culinary status of Oklahoma City, also has a new role opening a restaurant at the Skirvin Hotel, and Ian Boden of the Shack in Staunton, Va., is now also a culinary partner of The Tabard Inn in Washington, D.C.

In chain restaurant news, Shannon Johnson is back at Applebee’s.

Mike Bobb is proving that hard work and loyalty do pay off. He started at The Ballantyne Hotel in Charlotte, N.C., as chef de partie basically right out of culinary school, and now he’s its executive chef.

Similarly, Justin Miller, who has been at The Broadmoor hotel in Colorado Springs, Colo., for 25 years, is now running the culinary show there.

Read on to see what other chefs have new jobs.
