McDonald’s signature McRib sandwich will return to menus nationwide starting Dec. 3 for a limited time. To mark the cult favorite’s return, and for those attending holiday parties or shopping for gifts, the chain is selling half-gallon jugs of its tangy McRib sauce starting Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time while supplies last.
“The McRib is more than a sandwich – it’s a part of culture, it’s a legend, it’s an event,” chief marketing and customer experience officer Tariq Hassan said in a statement. “'McRib SZN' is a holiday unto itself, so we wanted to embrace that spirit and give fans an even bigger way to celebrate this year with A Whole Lotta McRib Sauce.”
A Whole Lotta McRib Sauce half-gallons are available for $19.99 online only at www.wholelottamcribsauce.com.
Also to celebrate “McRib SZN,” McDonald’s is dropping a holiday jingle called, “It Could Only Mean One Thing (McRib is Here),” available soon on all streaming platforms. There will also be McRib SZN integrations across various channels including social, entertainment, retail, and more, according to the company.
In 2022, McDonald’s teased a “farewell tour” for its popular McRib sandwich, a campaign that included merchandise. The offering, however, returned in late 2023. Last month, the item was spotted on menus in the United Kingdom, where it hadn’t appeared for a decade.
The McRib, a sandwich featuring a rib-shaped boneless pork patty, barbecue sauce, onions, and pickle slices, was first introduced in 1981, according to McDonald’s Wiki. Its cult status has earned the sandwich plenty of popular culture references, including on The Simpsons, How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, and Family Guy.
