EMERYVILLE Calif. The oatmeal war is merging with the $1 value-menu battle at Jamba Juice.
The 733-unit smoothie chain on Monday began offering its new oatmeal breakfast menu item for $1 with a downloadable coupon from a dedicated website.
The move follows Starbucks Corp.’s announcement in early February that its popular oatmeal would be available for $3.95 among several “breakfast pairings” with a tall latte or a tall brewed coffee.
Jamba Inc. has offered $1 oatmeal coupons at various times in the past, including Valentine’s Day and around the menu item’s debut earlier this year, but the coupon was offered only through bloggers and consumers had to search for it, officials said.
The new promotion is called the Jamba Economic Boost Plan, offering the $1 oatmeal through the end of March via a coupon accessible through a new Jamba website. Guests are asked to visit www.oatmealforabuck.com to download their printable coupon for use at participating locations.
Served with a brown-sugar crumble and a choice of three fruit toppings, Jamba Juice’s oatmeal is made with organic steel-cut oats and typically sells for a suggested $2.95.
“This economy has an effect on everybody,” said James White, Jamba’s chief executive. “Jamba Juice is always looking to bring customers high-quality menu items that fit into their lifestyle and budget. You can’t get anything for a buck these days, let alone a slow-cooked, delicious, wholesome meal.”
