Church’s Texas Chicken has promoted Roland Gonzalez to CEO, succeeding Joe Guith in the role, the company said Friday.

The Atlanta-based company said Gonzalez had served as the company’s chief operations officer since 2023. Guith had served as CEO since 2022.

Prior to joining Church’s, Gonzalez held senior leadership roles at such quick-service restaurant brands as Burger King, Tim Hortons, and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

“We are thrilled to welcome Roland Gonzalez as our new CEO — a visionary leader who already has had a tremendous impact on Church’s transformation as COO,” Anand Gowda, founder of High Bluff Capital Partners, said in a statement.

“His deep understanding of the QSR industry, commitment to growth-focused operational excellence, and dedication to driving franchisee profitability make him the ideal leader to guide Church’s through its next major evolution.”

Gonzalez also served as executive vice president for operations at Virtual Dining Concepts and headed global operations standards and strategy at Restaurant Brands International Inc.

“I am honored to now lead this great brand at a critical inflection point in our growth journey,” Gonzalez said in a statement. “Church’s holds a special place in the hearts of millions. I look forward to working alongside our talented team and valued franchisee partners to drive innovation, enhance our guest experience, and expand our footprint globally.”

In January, Church’s appointed Navid Sharma as chief marketing officer, succeeding Natalia Franco, who retired at the end of the month. The company also named Alisa Cleek, previously of Hooters of America, as chief legal officer.

Church’s was founded in San Antonio, Texas, in 1952. Texas Chicken and Church’s Texas Chicken have more than 1,500 locations in 26 countries and global markets.
