The McDonald’s of the future is shaping up to be a business where customers talk to human-like voice bots that process burger orders and suggest add-ons at the drive-thru, in-store kiosks and mobile phones.
That’s the idea behind McDonald’s Corp.’s latest investment. The Chicago-based chain said it has agreed to acquire Apprente, a two-year-old Silicon Valley startup that specializes in voice-based conversational technology. Terms of the deal, announced Tuesday, were not disclosed.
McDonald’s said the agreement marks another step in the chain’s commitment to deploy next-generation innovations that will simultaneously simplify operations for employees and improve accuracy and speed of service for customers.
