Fiesta Restaurant Group 3Q profit rises 38%

Same-store sales increase at both Pollo Tropical, Taco Cabana brands

Fiesta Restaurant Group Inc. reported on Tuesday that profit rose 38.2 percent in the Sept. 29-ended third quarter, and same-store sales rose at both its Pollo Tropical and Taco Cabana concepts.

The Addison, Texas-based fast-casual operator saw traffic increase 3.2 percent at Pollo Tropical and dip 0.1 percent at Taco Cabana during the quarter. Tim Taft, Fiesta’s president and chief executive, said that in 2014, the company will open its first Pollo Tropical in Texas and its first Taco Cabana in Georgia.

NET INCOME

Result: $5 million, or 21 cents per share
% Increase: 38.2% (from $3.6 million, or 16 cents per share)

REVENUE

Result: $140.7 million
% Increase: 9.8% (from $128.2 million)

SAME-STORE SALES

% Increase at Pollo Tropical: 6.5%


% Increase at Taco Cabana: 1.8%
