Taco Bell is rolling out a new taco across its 6,100 domestic units and also market-testing items including a fried chicken pizza and a breakfast taco with a fried egg for a shell.
The Yum! Brands subsidiary introduced the new Loaded Taco Burrito nationwide Thursday. The $1.49 item contains the fillings of a Taco Bell taco — seasoned beef, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese — along with tortilla strips, wrapped in a flour tortilla. It will be available for five weeks.
It’s the first new burrito the chain has introduced since the Steakhouse Burrito, a premium limited-time offer introduced in November, 2016, made with a double portion of grilled steak, potato bites, bacon, sour cream, three-cheese blend and green chile queso wrapped in a flour tortilla. It sold for around $6.
Also on Thursday, Taco Bell started a test in Columbus, Ohio, of a Mexican Crispy Chicken Pizza. That item has nacho cheese sauce, fried chicken, the chain’s Mexican pizza sauce, three-cheese blend and pico de gallo on its Mexican pizza shell.
The pizza is priced at $3.49 and $3.99, depending on the restaurant
On that same day in Kansas City, the chain started testing a $3 Breakfast Meal Deal featuring its Grilled Breakfast Burrito, hash browns, Cinnabon Delights and vanilla iced coffee.
The chain also said it would start testing a new breakfast taco in Flint Mich., April 18. The Naked Breakfast Taco replaces the traditional taco shell with a fried egg. It’s filled with potato bites, sausage crumbles or bacon, nacho cheese and shredded cheddar. It’s also available in the chain’s Gordita Flatbread for people who want it.
It’s $1.99.
The Naked Breakfast Taco follows the limited-time offer earlier this year of the Naked Chicken Chalupa, which was a thin fried chicken patty folded in half and stuffed with shredded lettuce, tomatoes and avocado ranch dressing. It sold for $2.99.
April 6, 2017, this story has been updated with the prices for the Mexican Crispy Chicken Pizza.
