The combination of sweet mango and super-hot habanero has been growing fast on menus over the past four years, boosted by the growth of Latin foods and the increased demand for more regional flavors. Mango habanero is also a popular combination in Caribbean cuisine.
The fruit-and-hot pepper combination creates a sweet sauce that pairs well with chicken wings and seafood, and its balance between hot and sweet can vary based on the individual operator and its customers.
Market research firm Datassential reports that mango-habanero is currently found on 2.6% of U.S. menus, an increase of 101% over the past four years.
