The successful initial public offerings of Noodles & Company and Potbelly Corp. this summer have Wall Street watchers looking forward to planned and rumored restaurant IPOs ahead.
Both companies saw their initial stock prices more than double in the first day of trading, which many saw as a sign that investors increasingly see restaurant companies — and perhaps fast-casual brands, in particular — as a sweet investment spot.
But some say the next restaurant IPO will be the real test of investor interest. After Potbelly’s big open, some watchers warned of irrational exuberance, while others pointed to downward trends in same-store sales this year that could dampen growth prospects for restaurant brands.
