CEO Jonathan Neman said offices were back based on the strong performance of Sweetgreen’s outposts in Q4 2021, and now the fast-causal restaurant chain has unveiled a revamp to the program, which has added 200 locations in less than six months, the company announced Wednesday.

Since Oct. 2021, the number of outposts — pick-up only locations at offices, hospitals, residential buildings and public spaces that Sweetgreen couriers deliver pre-ordered salads to — has almost doubled, now totaling 550.

Going forward, the shelves will be designed to blend in more with nature and the environment, with a darker green color and bamboo-like posts.

“We’ve been pleasantly surprised with [the] outposts…. it’s an indicator of a return to office,” said Sweetgreen CEO Jonathan Neman on the brand’s first-ever quarterly earnings call on March 3.

In the week after the call, 17 more outposts launched.

The outposts have allowed Sweetgreen to build capabilities beyond one-to-one delivery, attract new customers, and weave wellness into the fabric of office culture with healthy, flavorful meals according to a company release.

The redesign is aimed to cultivate sustainable habits, blur the boundary between greenspaces and workspaces, and bring customers what they want.

Currently, Sweetgreen has over 550 outposts in 13 markets. The brand saw 36% same-store sales growth in its latest quarter earnings and has over 200 brick-and-mortar stores.
