Subway introduces a footlong Oreo cookie; Wendy’s debuts a Girl Scout Thin Mint Frosty
Cookie partnerships are big this winter, with two major brands teaming with existing brands to introduce new desserts.
Dublin, Ohio-based The Wendy’s Co. this month introduced the Girl Scout Cookie Thin Mint Frosty, and Miami-based Subway teamed with Oreo to produce a new footlong cookie.
Both items are available for limited times. The Wendy’s Thin Mint Frosty will again sub in for the vanilla, the company said.
Subway, which divides its headquarters between Miami and Shelton, Conn., said it has sold more than 13 million Subway Footlong Cookies, which it introduced in December 2023.
"Subway worked closely with the Oreo cookie experts to create something that fans of both brands are going to love – the ideal blend of our popular double chocolate cookie with the delicious crunch of their signature cookie and creme filling," Paul Fabre, Subway’s senior vice president for culinary innovation, said in a statement. "Oreo cookies capture our passion for quality ingredients and maximum flavor, making them the ideal partner for Subway's first Footlong Cookie collaboration."
Oreos remain a popular cookie. More than 60 billion Oreo cookies are sold each year worldwide with more than 20 billion of those cookies sold in the United States, Subway said.
McDonald’s franchisees have pointed out that Wendy’s is introducing the Thin Mint Frosty about the same time as they are promoting their minty Shamrock Shakes.
Subway, owned by Atlanta-based Roark, has nearly 37,000 restaurants worldwide. Wendy’s has more than 7,000 quick-service restaurants.
