KFC executives say supportive franchisees and product promotions will help drive sales of its new boneless chicken item.
KFC is betting that the launch of its new Original Recipe Boneless chicken will not be a repeat performance of the brand’s disappointing 2009 rollout of Kentucky Grilled Chicken, which failed to live up to sales promises and alienated many of the brand’s franchisees.
This time around, officials at the 4,400-unit Yum! Brands Inc. subsidiary said the new chicken-off-the-bone product already has won strong franchisee backing, is front-loaded to receive more media support and is simply a better product that will appeal to more contemporary palates.
President John Cywinski said KFC expects success with the boneless product, adding that it already has demonstrated significant potential in test.
