Pizza Hut is kicking off the new year with a 50-percent discount on pies ordered online or by app through Jan. 9, the company said Monday.

Plano, Texas-based Pizza Hut’s half-off discount continues a tradition of new-year deals. The chain greeted 2016 by introducing a “$5 Flavor Menu.”

“The weeks after the holiday season can be financially tight for many, ” said David Timm, Pizza Hut’s chief marketing officer, in a statement last week. “With this quick and easy offer, we’re making sure Pizza Hut fans can enjoy the pizza they love without breaking the bank.”

Pizza Hut said its deal can be accessed by clicking a 50-percent-off tile on its website or mobile app.

“The offer will be available for all menu-priced pizza orders placed through Pizza Hut’s online ordering systems for carryout or delivery,” the company said.

Segment rivals are also offering incentives in the new year.

Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Domino’s Pizza is continuing its “Piece of the Pie Contest,” which aims to entice members of its loyalty rewards program with $10,000 prizes for social media posts through April 16.

Louisville, Ky.-based Papa John’s International Inc., the official pizza sponsor of the National Football League, is offering a post-season football playoffs deal of $5 cheese sticks with orders of two large, two-topping pizzas for $8 each.

Pizza Hut is a subsidiary of Louisville, Ky.-based Yum! Brands Inc. The chain has more than 15,600 restaurants in more than 97 countries.
