Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen introduced the Chicken Waffle Tenders earlier this month as a limited-time offer in an effort to bolster interest around the chain’s chicken tender platform.

NRN spoke with Popeyes vice president of culinary innovation, Amy Alarcon, about the new menu item. She said the systemwide rollout of the sweet-and-salty chicken tenders was “the first time that we’ve done something in many, many years where we shake up how we operate. Training was very in-depth for this one.”

Besides operational changes, Alarcon also spoke about the research and development process, such as testing new batters and breading.

The Chicken Waffle Tenders are available from July 29 through Aug. 25.
