Just like the taco, pizza and sushi that came before, Americans have embraced a sandwich that once was found only in ethnic mom-and-pop shops in immigrant communities: the bánh mì.
A traditional baguette sandwich from Vietnam, the bánh mì was born of the French colonies. It is a sandwich that includes the bread, meat and sometimes pâté of France with the flavors and textures of Vietnam, such as fresh cilantro, chiles, pickled carrots and daikon with cucumber.
