McDonald’s Corp. is altering three classic menu items by giving customers the option to add bacon to the Big Mac, the Quarter Pounder and a heaping of fries slathered in cheddar cheese sauce.

The new menu items are the first nationwide limit-time offers of the year for the Chicago-based chain, which has promised a pipeline of new products for 2019 especially at breakfast.

The three new items will land on menus Jan. 30. The company said prices will range, depending on location, for the Big Mac Bacon from $5.19 to 5.39, the Quarter Pounder Cheese with bacon from $5.29 to $5.49 and the Cheese Bacon Fries from $3.15 to $3.45.

The chain said the LTOs are part of the brand’s commitment to give “customers more craveable and delicious menu options.”

“People love bacon, and they love our iconic Big Mac, fresh beef Quarter Pounder burgers and world-famous fries, so we had to see what would happen if we combined all that tastiness,” said chef Michael Haracz, McDonald’s manager of culinary innovation, in a statement. “As a bacon enthusiast myself, I’m proud to say that we’ve done right by bacon fans.”

The Big Mac Bacon will contain three pieces of thick-cut applewood-smoked bacon, along with two beef patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun.

Quarter Pounder Bacon also includes three pieces of bacon to the regular Quarter Pounder burger. The Cheesy Bacon Fries were offered for a limited time last year in Hawaii, Northern California and the company’s ground floor restaurant at its Chicago headquarters.

The fries are topped with cheddar cheese sauce and smoked bacon bits.

This isn’t the first-time McDonald’s has embellished its famous fries with toppings or added seasoning. In parts of Northern California, the chain sells garlic fries in restaurants near Gilroy, Calif. – dubbed the garlic capital of the world.  In Japan, menus have offered fries with chocolate sauce.

McDonald’s has turned to bacon in the past to jazz up its menu.

In 2018, the company introduced the Bacon Smokehouse Signature Crafted burger for a limited time. The sandwich contains bacon strips as well as smoky bacon-onion sauce. The McDonald’s menu also features the Bacon McDouble.

Over the past year, McDonald’s so-called food journey has included adding fresh beef to its Quarter Pounder burgers and introducing Buttermilk Crispy Tenders, Triple Breakfast Stacks and improving the McCafe drink menu.
