Brand waives hearing; NLRB to oversee May 12-13 election
Within days of workers at a Burgerville restaurant in Portland, Ore., voting to unionize, the chain has waived a National Labor Relations Board hearing and will support an election at a second location in May, the company said.
The Vancouver, Wash.-based quick-service chain said late Thursday that it had informed the NLRB that it will waive a board hearing and support a vote by employees at Burgerville Store No. 8, at 19119 SE McLoughlin Blvd., in Portland.
Workers at the first Burgerville voted 18 to four on Sunday and Monday in favor of being represented by the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) Portland chapter, also known as the Burgerville Workers Union. Three workers abstained in that NLRB-overseen election.
