Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Inc. today announced a new delivery partnership with DoorDash and will be giving away one of its popular chicken sandwich meals with DoorDash orders of $20 or more Jan. 13-19.

The Miami-based subsidiary of Toronto-based Restaurant Brands International said the DoorDash deal makes the third-party company the one the brand’s largest delivery partners, operating across 1,000 stores nationwide.

“The positive response and demand for our new chicken sandwich sparked a social media frenzy, and it was incredible to see this new product generate such excitement from our fans,” said Bruno Cardinali, who leads Popeyes’ marketing in North America, in a statement.

“We are thrilled about the continued buzz around our chicken sandwich and excited to deliver it to our loyal fans for free through our partnership with DoorDash,” Cardinali said.

To unveil the new service, Popeyes is giving customers who order $20 or more through DoorDash a free chicken sandwich combo meal and a $0 delivery fee with code CHICKENWINNER.

The sandwich debuted last fall and was in stores for about two weeks before it sold out. Sales and the subsequent buzz contributed to a 9.7% boost in Popeyes same-store sales for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, and systemwide sales were up by 5.6% for the brand for the quarter.

The companies said the new partnership integrates DoorDash into Popeyes’s point-of-sale system for a reliable end-to-end customer experience.

“Over the past few months, we’ve worked closely with Popeyes to build a robust partnership,” said Toby Espinosa, DoorDash’s vice president of business development.  “As one of the most requested stores to date, we’re excited to bring the beloved Popeyes brand to our marketplace.”

As part of the new partnership, Popeyes will also be available for DashPass customers so that subscribers can get favorite Popeyes menu items through DoorDash without delivery fees. For $9.99 a month, DashPass offers its members unlimited $0 delivery fees on orders of $12 or more from participating restaurants.

Popeyes, founded in 1972, has more than 3,000 restaurants in the U.S. and around the world.
