Subway, which has been without a permanent CEO since Suzanne Greco retired in June 2018, has named John Chidsey as the company’s new leader.

He assumes the role Nov. 18.  Chidsey was previously the chairman and CEO of Burger King Holdings Inc. Prior to that, he served as Burger King's president and chief financial officer.

“We're very pleased to have John join our Subway family.  His diverse business background and global food and beverage expertise will help us continue the evolution of the Subway brand,” the company said in a statement. “He will help drive our commitment to always deliver exceptional experiences for our guests and continued support for our franchise owners.”

Trevor Haynes, who has been interim CEO since Greco retired, will continue with the brand in the role of President North America, the company said.

"I am honored to be joining such an iconic global brand and I am most excited about the future of Subway. I look forward to learning from and working with the many constituents who have built this brand," Chidsey said in a statement.

Last month, the Milford, Conn.-based sandwich chain named  Carrie Walsh as chief marketing officer. She most recently led marketing for arts and crafts retailer Michaels Stores and previously held the CMO role at Yum Brand’s Pizza Hut division.

Subway has about 42,400 franchised restaurants in more than 100 countries.
