Newk’s Eatery has named former Good Smoke Restaurant Group executive Michael Clock chief financial officer, the company said Wednesday.

Clock, who replaces Robert Nygren in the role, previously served as CFO for Good Smoke, parent company to the barbecue brands Dinosaur BBQ and Jim ’N Nick’s Community BBQ. Nygren left to take a position with Houlihan’s Restaurants Inc.

“As a career-long financial leader in the restaurant industry, Mike is a valuable addition to the Newk’s team as we turn the next page of this landmark chapter of growth,” said Chris Newcomb, Newk’s co-founder and CEO, in a statement. “His insight, expertise and passion for the food industry make him a perfect fit for Newk’s.”

Prior to Good Smoke, Clock was executive vice president and CFO for bakery-café operator Le Duff America Inc., parent to the Mimi’s Café, Bruegger’s Bagels, La Madeleine and Brioche Dorée brands. He also held leadership roles with Carlson Restaurants Worldwide and TGI Fridays.

The move comes at a time when the Jackson, Miss.-based Newk’s is gearing up to nearly double in size by 2019. The chain plans to expand from 103 units in 13 states to around 200 locations within three years.
