Noodles & Company executive vice president of marketing Dan Fogarty will step down due to personal reasons, effective March 13, the company said Monday in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Under an agreement, Fogarty will be available on a consulting basis during the transition, as the fast-casual operator searches for a replacement, the filing said.

Fogarty has led the marketing team since October 2010, after joining Noodles & Company in 2009. He first served as the operator’s vice president of marketing.

Under Fogarty, Broomfield, Colo.-based Noodles & Company has positioned itself as “Your World Kitchen,” a campaign that highlighted the brand’s global flavors.

In 2013, Noodles & Company held an initial public offering, with the goal of expanding nationally.

In recent months, however, company officials have expressed the need to work on the chain’s brand awareness, particularly its focus on sustainable ingredients. In February, Noodles officials hired an advertising agency to help address that problem and better communicate the brand’s positioning.

Noodles & Company finished the fourth quarter ended Dec. 30 with 439 restaurants in 32 states and the District of Columbia.
