As domestic restaurant brands continue to look overseas for expansion opportunities, knowledge of local foodservice competitors is imperative. As part of the NRN International Top 25 report, a comparison of the rankings of both U.S.- and Canada-based restaurant brands and international concepts is presented below.
Both sets of rankings are based on a chain's global systemwide foodservice sales. While both the Top 25 U.S.- and Canada-based restaurant brands and their Top 25 international rivals showed significant sales growth in their latest full years, results clearly show the global dominance of U.S. brands in scale of sales.
For example, U.S.-based McDonald's, at No. 1 in the domestic rankings, collects global foodservice sales almost seven times that of Tokyo-based 7-Eleven, the respective leading international brand. The U.S. domination continues throughout the Top 10 comparisons.
