Leonard Comma has been promoted to the role of president and will remain chief operating officer for Jack in the Box Inc., the company said Monday.

Comma, who has served as executive vice president and chief operating officer since 2010, adds the oversight of marketing for Jack in the Box restaurants to his responsibilities, in addition to heading operations, restaurant development and franchising.

“Lenny has demonstrated outstanding leadership ability in various roles with Jack in the Box,” said Linda Lang, the San Diego-based company’s chair and chief executive, who previously also served as president.

“Since becoming chief operating officer in 2010, Lenny launched a number of internal programs that have improved guest service and strengthened restaurant operations,” she added. “The insight he’s gained while overseeing major functional areas of the company, along with his strong background in restaurant and retail operations, will serve the organization well as we complete our refranchising strategy and continue growing our Jack in the Box brand.”

When he joined the company in 2001, Comma initially was director of convenience store and fuel operations for the Quick Stuff chain, which Jack in the Box later sold in 2009. In 2007, he was promoted to vice president of operations before becoming COO three years later.

Jack in the Box Inc. operates or franchises 2,200 namesake restaurants in 20 states, as well as more than 600 locations of Qdoba Mexican Grill in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
