Sonic Corp. is adding sweet potato tots and popcorn chicken for a limited time at its drive-in restaurants nationwide, the company said Monday.

Oklahoma City, Okla.-based Sonic, which has long offered regular potato tots, is one of the first quick-service chains to offer the sweet potato version.

“Everyone is talking about sweet potatoes as a trend, but few are putting unique offerings on their menus,” said Clas Petersson, Sonic’s new vice president of product and packaging. "Sonic is excited to offer its guests such a distinctive food flavor.”

The new tots can be ordered as a snack or upgrade to any of Sonic's combo meals, the company said.

Last year, the regional quick-service chain Culver’s introduced a limited-time sweet potato fry offer.

Sonic is also offering Jumbo Popcorn Chicken in a snack size for $1.99 after 8 p.m. The all-white-meat chicken pieces come with a choice of three dipping sauces: hickory barbecue, honey mustard and ranch.
