Unfamiliar terms may crop up as restaurant operators discuss deploying a mobile-friendly ordering and/or payment system for their brands. Here are definitions for some of the most common:

Application program interface, or API: A set of routines, protocols and tools for building software applications that is used to get one program to talk with another.

Loyalty progression: A customer’s progress toward loyalty rewards, given that mobile payments make it easier to track customer orders and offer rewards.

Merchant analytics dashboard: A single location where the data collected from mobile payments is displayed for business owners and managers to review and analyze.
